  1. The slow burn of LOTR both book and film (especially book) had a lot going on in terms of foreshadowing, character development, and world-building. You had memorable events - pursuit of the Black Riders, meeting Elves in the wood, struggling through an enchanted forest, meeting a mysterious being who aids them, getting nearly killed on Barrow Downs and all this before they got to Bree! But you felt like you had gone on a journey and had had a number of mini-adventures along the way. With ROP, the storytelling is mainly on the damn mystery boxes with the hopes the reveals will make up for the boring storytelling and lack of character development. There certainly hasn't been any memorable moments or much adventure in 5+ hours compared to the 8 Chapters in LOTR before Bree.

  4. It's Xena Warrior Princess budget level but at least with that you knew going in it was low budget
