  1. The elite are insane. All they care about is maintaining their power and continually growing their wealth, wealth they could never spend in several lifetimes. They will let the world burn so they can make a few million on a Tuesday. It's just a game they play with little consequences to them until they wake up and realize they can't eat money and the rest of the world (what's left of it) has reverted to trade&barter of necessity goods like drinkable water and food.
