The problem is most of your opponents are entrenched with bad arguments, strawman arguments, "clever" but also bad analogies, and the paranoid fear of criminals and evil government hordes that they need to have guns at the ready for. They will constantly shift and pivot, deflect, project, and outright lie because they just want to have guns and they will never concede.
