I doubt either the car or the knife embolden him to go on his insane quest. His main goal was to kill as many people as he could. His roommates was a personal grudge and it's rather obvious he used a knife so that gunshots wouldn't have given him away before he could embark on his insane mission to kill. Also it more than likely they were killed in their sleep. This disingenuous NRA doofus wants to split hairs but like a lot of people like him they don't understand when that makes a difference and when it doesn't. Here it's a simple case of mathematics. More people were killed and injured by gunfire than by knife or car so calling him a stabber doesn't work nor a car and he went to great effort to acquire the guns as they were essential to his plan. The main reason he is making it an issue is rather obvious - to obfuscate the issue and avoid any sensible discussion on gun control.
