The main problem with the kindergarden notion that only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun is that ultimately it is only a short-term personal solution that doesn't guarantee 100% success but most importantly in no way does it address the much larger issue which is poverty. Just having everyone armed is not going to magically make crime disappear. Much of the shootings in Chicago are gang-related and gangs know that other gang members are likely to be armed so it doesn't stop them.
