whyamimrpink78 spare a southerner your revisionist history bullshit because I've heard it for years. Southerners and conservatives in general have a hard time owning up to their own faults preferring to project them onto their opponents while they paint a rosy picture of the past draped in nostalgia. The Civil Rights Act was needed because southern states were trampling on the constitutional rights of black citizens. That flag was raised in support of segregation and Jim Crow laws so fuck it and anyone who supports that particular flag. As for Northern racists, they existed and do exist now but you don't have people in general trying to defend them or make excuses for them.

whyamimrpink78 taking down a flag on state property that was part of a nation hostile to the US not to mention supported slavery which was later raised as a fuck you to Civil Rights is not PC getting out of hand. It being up there in the first place for so long was letting racism get out of hand.

whyamimrpink78 All the southern states had to do was abide by the Constitution but they refused. And no the confederate flag did not represent that. They raised that flag several years before the law was signed. Don't ennoble something ignoble put up for heinous reasons.

whyamimrpink78 the only people who complain about the unconstitutionality of the Civil Rights Act are racists who claim fed overreach which basically means the feds are keeping them from discriminating. Hardly a debate worth having with such unsavory individuals.

whyamimrpink78 The overreach of the Civil Rights Act in comparison to Jim Crow laws and segregation is hardly a thing to wring one's hands about. It's apples and oranges or in this case apples and hand grenades.

They've been losing their minds for years

whyamimrpink78 when the states go out of their bounds to trample the constitutional rights of citizens then the federal government should and must act accordingly. People were being beaten and killed protesting for their rights.

whyamimrpink78 "The only people who complained about the unconstitutionality of the Patriot Act hate America. See how easy it is to twist words around." Except that's a terribly weak argument which is hardly worth comparing as no one sees the "patriot" act as "patriotic." Removing the flag from public grounds of a once hostile nation which was pro-slavery then raised again in defiance of the civil rights movement (FYI it was raised before the Act was even signed so it was more an act of resistance towards people like MLK Jr than against federal overreach) is not depriving anyone of their rights.

whyamimrpink78 No, it was the southern states which were not civil arresting, beating, and murdering civil rights activists who were demonstrating for the constitutional rights of black citizens. Your pathetic melodramatics of the big bad fed government trampling on some rights (what? the right to discriminate? fuck you) pales in comparison to the reality of what had been going on in the South for decades. That particular flag was raised by racists with racist intent against the civil rights movement which was fighting to support the constitutional rights of black citizens. It has never been anything but racist and this wasn't the first time there had been calls to have it brought down. As for Jackson on the $20 - given the fact that he hated the banks he'd have been the first to demand himself removed from the bill.

Dragon1717 but it won't be flown on public land. That's the bottom line. People can buy all the Dixie flags they want.
