It's hilariously ironic that the people who call liberals godless commies practically worship a man who is buddy buddy with a former KGB leader of the very commies their beloved Saint Reagan was so vehemently against. If Obama had behaved this way, there would have been less opposition from democrats and many liberals if impeachment was brought against him either over possible collusion or mental impairment but that's because more people on the Left (not all unfortunately but more) actually have principles.

there is definitely that but it's more to do with tribalism. They will accept a black person who espouses their views and more importantly denounces liberals. Obama's crime was being both black and a Democrat. But look at Bill Clinton. He's a white southerner yet he is loathed by the rightwing. They went so far as to actually impeach him over an affair that had no impact on any policy whatsoever. Since the 90s the rightwing has been conditioned through a variety of sources to despise liberals on such a visceral level that they would practically sink a lifeboat they are in just to spite a liberal. This is why they are so willing to give a former democrat who speaks their lingo so many passes on issues that they would have hanged Obama and Bill Clinton on. In short, they are so far gone in their tribalistic insanity there is no reasoning with them and if we can stop the gerrymandering and voter suppression we wouldn't and shouldn't have any serious discussion with these insane ignorant people anymore.

@gr8ketch Trump is more a product of the insanity that has been brewing in the rank and file of the rightwing. They are so desperate for a strong leader who "tells it like it is" after the disaster that was the Bush Presidency and having to endure the international popularity of a black democrat president who was competent at his job that they latched on to this huckster. And that really is what Trump is at his core - he's a con man and what con men do best is get people to willingly do what he wants. Trump never could have done this in 2000 or 2008 because conditions were not ripe enough (and perhaps he didn't have dementia then either). By 2015 he likely saw how impervious to facts much of the rightwing base was (the whole Birther thing was a testing of the waters no doubt) and decided to speak their language while holding no punches which got him nominated out of 15 other candidates. He essentially highjacked the rightwing base right from under the GOP with his Pied Piper tactics, a base they had been conditioning through Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, rightwing radio, etc...for the last two decades. But again, he could not have done so if those people weren't already in that state of mind to begin with.

emolument violations, campaign finance violations, obstructions of justice, a slew of people around him indicted and charged on various crimes

Putin is hardly a reliable source either, comrade.
