This is a culmination of 20+ years of rightwing rhetoric pumping an alternative reality of fear, paranoia, intolerance, projection. This has been building since the days of Waco with the fears of black helicopters and UN takeovers of the US. The difference is back then it was more on the fringe but with the rise of rightwing media and the so-called mainstream media being "balanced" in giving equal time to ridiculousness, these nutjobs have multiplied. Thanks to rightwing sites, they have created this vast echo-chamber bubble where they have fed on each other paranoia building up early conspiracy theories to the point where they have created another reality that seems more real to them than the one the rest of us inhabit.
