It's no longer simply a difference of opinions and it hasn't been for some time nor is it a case of "both sides have extremists." The hardcore elements of the rightwing which is now the mainstream are out to lunch and they aren't coming back. They subscribe to a completely different form of reality and this allows them to justify reprehensible actions in the name of freedom making them dangerous.
