Car deaths and injuries have always been high because cars are used by far more people far more often on a daily basis and are subject to a myriad of things like weather, car problems, problems with a driver, traffic conditions, momentary distractions, etc...however despite this, car fatality rates have gone down because of the number of safety regulations on cars and roads. The deaths and injuries by guns which are used less frequently and by fewer people in comparison to cars shows they are and always have been the more dangerous of the two plus fewer regulations have been implemented to make them safer or less available to the general public
