As a 66 year old Canadian, born, raised and living in Canada, I've had the opportunity to use our "single payer system" most recently (2017) for stent surgery on my heart. The service performed at Vancouver General Hospital (aka VGH) was top notch and upon my departure, the nurse handling the paperwork mentioned that a similar procedure, as well as the liver stone they found and took care of (and one week hospital stay in a private room) in the US would have set me back at least CAD$20,000. My bill when I left $0. The food was so good, I kept sending the kitchen complimentary notes. Maybe I was just lucky?

Following your logic, why do we have personal insurance, home insurance, auto insurance, schools, fire departments, roads, bridges, credit unions, co-ops, airports, police departments, etc.?
