A piece of land that is normally used for farming but that is left with no crops on it for a season in order to let it recover its fertility is an example of land that would be described as fallow. I was under the impression, that Americans, presuming you are in the U.S., didn't understand sarcasm. It appears that this Canadian (me) doesn't understand your "anything but" subtle sarcasm when it's in front of my face.
