If you make it that easy for a kid to gain access, that is raw negligence. The safe doesn't even need to take long for you to open to defend your home. A manual lock opened by a key, that only you know where it is, will work. Just, make sure to keep the key with you while awake, then in a safe box with a combination (cheap enough to key without all the fancy electronic stuff) when you are about to go to bed. Easy.

If anything can be justified by pointing to the intent, the question begged now is, who's ends should be the standard? The second you start explaining why that person's ends are what justify the means, it is no longer the case that the ends themselves justify them but rather the standard used to judge which ends is preferable.
