Beczuse the US has had several military misadventures, now, when it matters the most, it cannot act. What history appears to be showing us is that the US always misunderstands or incorrectly assesses its geopolitical position and its military position. At heart the US is isolationist but wants to reap the benefits of being a global superpower with none of the costs. I am starting to see that if we want to fight these authoritarians we must make other alliances. The US does not care enough about freedom to fight. It seems they are willing to give up on their own democracy.

The Russians talking about a NATO "threat" was just a distraction from the true reason. NATO was never a threat and anyone with a mind that thinks understands how ridiculous that is. Unfortunately the US has some very parochial low information people.

The ambassador says the accusations about the relationship between trump and putin were overblown and that history has proven that. However while no collusion was found, it became obvious that Russia was attempting to gain access to trump through his son and son in law and other campaign officials. Trump certainly had "business" connections there both through his real estate company and his beauty pageant. Recent history has shown that trump has been in contact with putin while out of office and that trump feels an affinity with authoritarians, meeting Orban a few times and praising Erdogan, Xi, and KJ Un. And of course we cannot forget Helsinki and that he has said Russia can do whatever it likes if NATO partners don't "pay up". Trump will move to anyone with power who praises him and wants to help him achieve his goals and if that is a murderous dictator so be it. Seems like US citizens are in enough numbers also happy to embrace that.
