I understand the ties between former East Germany and Russia but was surprised to discover the similar close ties of France. According to a French philosopher in the documentary Rebellion The Litvinenko Case, some French people had a romantic view of Russia either politically or culturally. It felt very strange seeing Chirac present putin with the Legion of Honour medal which putin seemed to snub his nose at. A man such as putin as the documentary shows has no honour. What I saw in the documentary was proof of far right extremism as seen in Germany.

Thanks I was watching Rebellion The Litvinenko Case by Andrei Nekrasov and a philosopher being interviewed made an analogy between Russia as it was then 2007, with 1940s Germany and accused the Russian people with 'the crime of indifference '. Russia is a lot worse now. A Ukrainian prosecutor who is in contact with human rights advocates inside Russia asked what can be done and they replied...defeat Russia.

I recommend the book Freezing Order by Bill Browder. A very interesting insight into Russia's financial system and economy.
