Here we see the strengths and weaknesses of both democracy and authoritarianism. Russia has its systemic corruption and centralised command which fails its army and yet they can easily switch to war economy and outproduce the west in weapons production. The democracies are hampered more by public opinion, bureaucracy and political point scoring and oppositional undermining but have a vastly superior military in terms of weaponry and training. What is the point of that advantge when it cannot come into play when required? From the view of where we are now, it seems to me that failing to act in a more decisive way due to Ukraine not being a NATO member, was, is, a self sabotaging own goal. Now the west is in the back foot because the sanctions did not and could not work and they cannot ramp up production of weapons when required. The only win situation for Europe and Oceania is for Russia to be pushed back to its own border. No other option is a tenable outcome. At best it sacrifices parts of Ukraine to gain time to prepare for a bigger war later. In other words the EU has achieved nothing through its hesitancy and it has not avoided escalation but emboldened it and made it inevitable.

I have mentioned Kkitchko before and that he has been invovlved in dodgy dealings along with Poroshenko and they are un the opposing party.

I agree. The US should return to isolationism and reduce trading with Europe, give up all international agreements be they trade or otherwise and concentrate on itself, forget about its allies who it so obvious does not need and rely solely on it own ability to defend itself. We will adjust and will no longer be bullied into sending our people into its pointless wars just to protect its empire.
