When my sister and I were kids I think I was about 9 and her 11 we had two cats and one was always catching sparrows in the back garden, one time I caught her catching one and ran over and it was squarking really loud I managed to get it out of her mouth and it was staring at me. We both made this little cardboard bed with bits of cotton wool and lay the bird down, it was obviously dying but had this really content happy look on its face that we were there for it. It just kept staring right at me and I stared straight back, it wasn't frightened anymore it looked really peaceful and we both just stayed with it,then after about 10 minutes or so it died, so I lifted its head up and saw a hole in its neck. I never forgot that fascinated peaceful look on its face that someone cared so much and was there for it. It knew I'd tried to save it..
