True, but I was thinking more about what the designers, draftsmen were thinking, over a hundred years of iron and steel ship building all across the globe and then they design ones with a detachable bow section. Any new design of anything comes with snags, even generic medications or computers or tablets at cetera. That's why they are cheap cheap because the flaws have to be ironed out. It's playing with people's lives , short sighted and stupid. Earlier ships with those designs had problems too

  5. Yes and the OLYMPIC, TITANIC Sister ship mowed down a U boat with just scratched to the prow. Mind you ESTONIA 15000 T compared to OLYMPIC 46000 much bigger vessel. Plus the Submarine supposedly hit the ship side on but that dent (whatever caused it) was hardly enough to sink the ship so quickly, with water tight compartments. I'm no expert but we're and subs reported in the Baltic at that time, and why surface in such rough seas? I tend to agree with what you say. Excuses really, that vessel was a disaster waiting to happen. And I'm sure I saw a video on it having a ship built by the same company where they had snags with that ridiculous design before, where the bow didn't operate correctly. So there were earning signs.
