@MyRealName I see the joke, but if anyone wonders: In a straight line is what he is referring to. But they are not that heavy (a lot lighter than an M3) so they can be made to be pretty competent budget track cars as well.
2
@ivanraguz3103 Yeah, but most cars are a little bit more optimistic at high speed than is necessary for tire size tolerance. 15kmh is bang on and my 8kmh is actually a bit too little if one fits larger wheels. Cheers.
2
Time it 100-200, that will show if that really is the case.
2
Yeah not very expensive at all. Btw, nice surname.. 😅
2
@DaveDVideoMaker Its an M5, check out the "vent" on the front fender, dont think anyone else got those? So unless they changed the front fender, should be an M5.
2
@Demidar665 Well, that depends on the speed the car is going at, but sure, you can interpret what he wrote that way. I thought he mistook the speedo for the gps speed. There have been many commenters making that mistake on earlier videos, which is what made me think this was another one. Both takes are equally valid from what he wrote, but yours is more charitable. Fair enough, why not.
2
@spookyreaper1702 Even a bit more than 305 actually when fully delimited. But it takes time, as it does with any car, to reach the true top speed. A very fast car for its time, Its not still faster than the New M5 CS when delimited, as quite a few people think.
2
@spookyreaper1702 Oh, for sure. Check out the G power Hurricane RR M5. which did a real 372 km/h. Cheers.
2
It could make this speed with multiple gears left probably, its just 276 kmh on GPS. A lot of speedo error on these cars it seems.
2
They didnt? A few hundred revs before revlimiter isnt that early, at least to me.
2
Same as almost every other car, give or take a meter.
2
@haydarbentalis5642 Should be way over 300kmh, real gps speed. In the video it reached 258kmh real GPS speed.
2
Not a big issue, who goes over 280 regularly? Just about no one, thats who. Top speed over 270-280 is a nice number, thats it.
2
Its a nice car, but the new one is much faster, both acceleration and top speed. Thats just the way it is, because of so much more power. The only way they are similar is if the new one still has the top speed limiter.
2
@lambertomainardi7933 Dont have the time or energy to calculate to formula while I am at work, but since I have owned one myself, I am a bit familiar with them and it should be 450-470 or so depending on the consistency of the powerband. Of course, outside temps and wind and other smaller factors makes a difference as well. But 505 when this video was made? No, thats not possible in normal conditions.
2
E90 has good aerodynamics.
2
Its a very large car... a lot of aerodynamic drag. Its not any slower than other same size SUVs, is it?
2
@GabriCasas Yep, thats exactly the intent of what I wrote above, more or less. So I agree.
2
@Maarten_vd No biggie, I like a M3P more than this Golf, but horses for courses and all that.
2
@coolguy_2997 Almost, not BMW, but BMW M cars specifically. I guess they wanted customers to be happy.
2
@zen7956 Not weight, all that much. Aero, yes indeed. Would have figured the difference between to very similar chassis cars to be less though. The diesel also reasonably should need less cooling since it is more efficient, making it possible to close up some venting, decreasing drag. But seeing is believing.
2
@Saif0412 It was in gear, mostly the top one.. so a bit skewed comparison.
2
Dont think so. Seems unlikely.
2
And it was made as a daily driver. The weekend car BMW made at the time would have been the M coupe. Just goes to show how different things can be.
2
Well done noticing it.. presumably its to decrase drag one would think?
2
e9x got pretty good aerodynamics for a turbo car, downside is a bit lacking in cooling
2
We can forgive them, just think of it as a 5 ratio box. They need that 6th ratio for fuel consumption compliance probably.
2
@FalconXE302 Seems a lot of people replying to you didnt get what you were saying. I agree fully with what you wrote: The cars Speedo appears to be incapable of showing more than 317kmh. For you other replyers: Speedo errors et al has nothing to do with what FalconXE302 wrote, its just an interesting phenomenon. Same as how all bikes speedo is supposed to stop no later than 299 because of the agreement manufacturers have. But this is probably because of some technical cause.
2
@papugenas Absolutely true, and not too long ago, there were at least some who took them out of the garage, but these days the hypercars have increased so much in price, I guess everyone who buys them sees them just as a way to store money. So they are very well streetable for at least short trips, but it decreases the value. Its the same as a classic art piece painting and statues and so on.
2
Its what most people want, for a variety of reasons. Mostly whats percieved as more interior space and being safer. Keep in mind I said "percieved as".
2
Not sure who owns it, maybe the factory itself? Maybe a test car to give journalists a ride in?
2
@fwebe2871 It could go a lot faster for sure with a more optimized 6th gear. I assure you of this. However, you are correct in that the second part of what you wrote, no one really needs a top speed over 280 anyway, no way to use that regularly.
2
Really cool car. Too bad about the 6th gear, but I guess 277 kmh top speed is good enough for almost everyone, certainly on every normal racetrack its enough. So its not a problem really. On the flipside, funny thing is my 13 year old standard SUV is faster in top speed, because of the gearing in this car.
2
@oDoMastermind I think its a bit more than that, but quite some way from 420, yeah.
2
@JerainJezza So a bit more power than an earlier car, then.
2
People love them, they dont love wagons.
2
@whitegptjet Exactly.
2
Same with every bike, just about.
2
@basti2002xxx Is it really? As I understood it from the video, it was a normal GTI with some Abt tuning software and badges, nothing else?
2
Dragy (app and gps sensor necessary)
2
Its like a swiss atomic watch compared to older supercars or motorcycles. And VW GTIs... and.. Yeah. Not that uncommon.
2
Yeah, its not very good looking, but way better than the normal e63 6 series.
2
223km/h seems to be the real speed reached. Not bad, not too good either, just about right for the power its got. Whistle actually has little to do with aerodynamics, Its probably from the doors, and just about all cars have crap aero along the sides, its more like worn out or lacking seals around the door/window that is causing that.
2
Its a pretty serious car, one of the last ones. These days its more about the attention.
2
@TheSuperProgrammerLB What fueling do you have for 2.4 bar? (sorry if I missed it), e85?
2
@volvome7magic Indeed, and that light is always on when the engine isnt anyway (Since there is no pressure with the engine off), meaning no useful information can be had from it until the engine is started anyway. So Yeah. It doesnt matter.
2
@gwspom I think the AWD and auto box is holdding it back a lot because I agree it should be like 7.5 seconds in a modern car with rwd with that power to weight. So even if it is 550, a lot might be lost in the drivetrain.
2
@AbdelhaQ_213 No way a 300hp Leon does 290 to 300 kph real speed (Not exagerrating speedometer). But yeah, this does not have 420hp.
2
@AbdelhaQ_213 290 is not far off from what is possible mathematically, but is that GPS verified speed and a flat piece of road? What I can say is that 300hp just isnt enough for real speeds of 300kph normally without exceptional aerodynamics which no normal combustion engine car possess, as far as I know. 290 Might be within possible range if the engine gives a bit more than 300hp.
2
@papa_pt "psychos" ? A bit harsh if serious when thats the way all of europe does it...
