Not necessarily. Very often the beam pattern is just more blinding because of the unsuitable light source configuration.

Only really insecure people (so, most of them these days, sadly..) give others crap for their personal choices, no matter what they have or like. I got a varied vehicle "collection" and I dont care if you got the slowest, lowest spec econobox of a car ever made, if you like and take an interest in it, you are cool. I am 100% serious. The inverse would be most (not all) supercar owners that own them just to flex, but arent interested in the car per se or know how to fill the tires with air.

Factory mount were better in all regards. Brighter and didnt hurt. Aftermarket bulbs only swap should be outlawed (same with LEDs), since their beam pattern is often messed up. This is how euro zone did it, and it makes sense.

@ Yes, but thats not necessarily an issue if the angle is correct. Walk under a streetlight and you are in the "light cone", but it still wont blind you. Or compare it to being lit by daylight but not being blinded until you look up at the sun.

@ I dont want anything in particular regarding this, I was talking about how its seemingly wrong apllication that people take issue with, not the technology itself.

Xenons were potentially quite a bit brighter than halogen.

Small note: They are brighter than any halogen, no matter the halogen bulb price.

Xenons were brighter than halogen, by quite a lot... Still really shouldnt be used as an aftermarket bulb only, because it messes up the beam pattern. Switching the whole headlight assembly, they were a good upgrade. Exactly the same goes for LEDs, only switch if your beam pattern is going to be ok. Euro regulations got it, as usual when it comes to safety, right.

Depend really, they were factory fit for over 20 years on some cars, and aftermarket for 10-15.

No, they are exactly the same. Hid=xenon. What you think of is probably some halogen marketed as "xenon-look" etc. The HID "computer" you have seen is just the high voltage transformer HID needs, they dont run on 12v.
