  1.  @ericmarciniak1864  From a stand still its the gearbox doing an enormous difference yes. Mk2 turbo S isnt much slower to speak of than this mk4 (they call it mk2 in the video) car when up to speed. And indeed the mk1 and 2 are much more terrain focused, hence why they are a bit heavier.

  2. Second gen is a bit lighter than old ones because they dont have all the terrain gubbins the first gen got. Back when they designed the first gen, they didnt yet figure out almost everyone would use them as just mall crawlers, so its very competent in the terrain. Also, from a standstill the gearbox itself makes an enourmous difference, 0.6-0.8 seconds off the 0-60 just from that. When up to speed, the first gen turbo s (especieally the 957 one) can hang with the second gen pretty well.

  3. Right you are. They also got a lot of extra terrain options availible from the factory (that few people got admittedly). Rear door/swing mounted spare is a cool very uncommon one. My 957 got the hydraulically disconnectable sway bar option.

  4. It was Porsche developed from the start of the mark 1 already. Only the V6 were VAG. So its actually the other way around, now all VAG cars share the same 4 liter v8. ANd the Porsche developed v8 from the mark 1 didnt cover itself in glory, it likes to go "boom" a bit to often, just like many other Porsches of that age do. I would rather they had put the Audi 4.2 v8 in the mark 1 and 2 and be done with it instead.

  10. Its an aquired taste. (I own both a mark1 and 2). The first one looking like a VW golf had a child with a Porsche 996 turbo and then eating too much is an unique look that sometimes strike my fancy, I must admit.

  11. For its time it was extremely fast, also in corners. Faster than a Boxster round the nurburgring with twice the weight, was something people didnt think was possible with an SUV at the time.

  12. Well if you were into cars, there had been 2 liter cars way before that were faster accelerating as well than a 955, such as many "rally specials" a la Mitsubishi evo etc.

  13. Horsepower talks... That said 955 was extremely fast, also in corners for its time, No other SUV came close. It can also do terrain better then the models that came after.

  15.  @loukasantoniou8054  If we are being honest most people just went to the mall in them, so I get why they dont care much about diff locks etc. Me, I have done some terrain drving in my 957, I have also had it up to 175mph GPS verified on flat road, which is about 2-3 mph than factory top speed spec, so quite proud of my old girl in that regard.

  16. Half right, the gearbox isnt optimal, but its a very heavy car. For its time, no other SUV came close, and even most "normal" cars didnt (and still dont today). BMW M5 of 2002 model year for example isnt that much faster.

  17.  @TheModManu  It might have been a sluggish example or you might just not like how it drives. Cayenne turbo is one of the cars that masks its speed and acceleration the best of all cars made at the time, because of its weight, height and pretty good sound insulation and not too loud exhaust. If one looks at the speedometer though, its clear its accelerating pretty fast compared to almost any other car of the era, as I said above its not too far behind for example a M5 E39 made in 2002, which was unheard of for a SUV. 450hp was a lot in those days...

  18. Car is almost 20 years old.... and quite cheap these days, relatively. Chances are almost 100% its been neglected in maintenance over its lifespan so far.

  19.  @NathanMannin  Funny enough, if you want to get really nerdy the "turbo S" was availible in everything but name earlier as well, known as the "E81 powerkit option". The turbo S 955 is just a "runout special" powerkit optioned turbo from factory with a new badge in a few places, as the last year of the 955.

  20.  @NathanMannin  It was quite expensive at the time, some £11k , as all porsche powerkits are (well, expensive from the perspective of most people.) It isnt just a tune after all, there are lots of hardware changes in the powerkit (and turbo S, consequently) such as intercoolers, front brakes, even new front damper struts etc etc. Getting a hold of all those parts today must be close to impossible for a reasonable price, your only option has got to be to part out a scrapped car that already had it fitted. Oh, I am glad you recognise my name, I am quite well. I have to admit I forgot yours... did you change your channel name or maybe I am jsut a bit forgetful when it comes to names, too much car info taking up space in the old noggin I guess...   22. I dont know about much different, mostly in the front looks I would say. But it does have the same engine as the mk3 (wouldnt this one in the video be a mk4 since its a facelift?)

  23. Lots of those cars arent sold in the uk, so they would have to find rare imported ones. Not easy I think.
