@christian_coulson Absolutely they can. But if its a street car first, why would you? Or perhaps you are simply unconcerned about any accidents, like me.

@ligma_nutz Yeah exactly, its not recommended to have them without a cage, just as its not recommended to have a cage without a helmet. Regarding the reinforced pillars thats all well and good, but in a high speed accident, you need a cage. the pillars wont do enough. In any case, I sometimes ride a motorcycle at reasonably high speeds, and if you do that, you are kidding yourself if you arent already comfortable with meeting your maker at any time. Its a tradeoff.

@sugarsaint If something is cheating or not is dependent on the rules of the game/competition etc. Ring time categories from the very beginning are ill-defined, so you have a point there. However, you bringing up other cars that are very low volume or prototypes that arent really production cars, doesnt strengthen your point at all, in fact quite the opposite. Guiness records for car speeds, such as the ones you name above, are a joke, as everyone that knows a bit about this business knows. Just like a lot of their other records. Ironic you shouldnt see that yourself, considering your last comment about knowing stuff about the subject...? They will certify just about anything if someone pay their fee, such as most eggs eaten in 5 minutes while juggling. Its an entertainment book, given to children as christmas presents back in the day. I know, I have a few of them myself. The only speed record that matters for those "in the know" are the F.I.A certified ones, you can take that to the bank. The term "production car" on the other hand, is not hard to define. If it can be bought from the factory as a part of a production car, all is fair. Honda does not sell or offer a Typer R with different gearbox ratios etc. Case closed.

You are right of course, but I would think its the same with many other manufacturers (most of them?) in modern days, since ring times became a sales argument.
