@fabr5747 Its a generally occuring rule ones car gets to a certain age. This is common enough and surely what he meant, since thats how it works almost everywhere.

@joseppedaia3673 The "oil warriors" like to say the change every 5k miles. Perhaps they really do, and not just say they do. But for the ones who do, there are likely even more people that never change it, especially in the US.

@JustmeandB I change the oil in my mothers sandero diesel every year, but she does 15000 miles in a yer, or a bit more. No issue considerng her driving pattern. Almost exclusively highway. Car is on 200k miles and going strong, exactly as one would expect.

They dont know anything else, that why. Old myths die hard.

@enlightendbel Your last sentence is a bit questionable in parts. Certainly the "better for your wallet" is far from categorically true, and if following the manufacturers oil spec, likely the inverse: Its worse for your wallet.

Exactly right.

What do you mean? You only changed the oil when it had changed chemical properties enough to physically give different temperature readings? wow, thats a novel way of doing it....

@RedbadvanRijn-ft3vv I sadly think our languages are too far apart to be able commicate effectively, since thats not what I asked. A pity.

Per the service manual in some cars it might need yearly. but I am yet to see any data it makes a real world difference.

Disagree heavily with the reasons why. Its more like they dont fit the Europe market regarding size, style, engine configuration and fuel consumption. Quality and technology have very little to do with it I would say.

@misterandersson5645 To be fair, not many American cars had all that in a package either. In fact, very, very few as a percentage.

It doesnt "dwarf" per se, but it certainly could be larger than average in some parking lots.
1
@primoz1231 He didnt specify exactly the location, size, number of cars in it, or what establishment the parking lot belonged to. I believe you are thinking of well used supermaket car parks etc, when he could be talking about a small parking lot in the countryside outside a small store, at a not very pooulated time. With some of those parameter in certain ways, its not that strange at all this could be the case in southern european/ mediterranean places, especially if its a Golf wagon. I have seen it myself, many times and I only visited on vacations. It can and will happen.

@beldin2987 Not different to anywhere else, really. What is different is the marketing budget is waaaay more in the US than mostly everywhere else, cenrtainly in europe, by a long shot. Without trying to be mean: Many americans get their info on stuff from marketing/commercials, which of course exist to sell a product rather than correctly inform. This is not the norm to the same degree in other places in the world. Those markets just dont support the money spent to run as many ads.

I think its pretty much a US exclusive thing.

@michaelherrmann3423 It is, but as with everything there are dminishing retursn somwehere. For lots of people, those can be over 10 000 miles per change.
