Many european brands arent availible because they wouldnt sell well. Americans love big, simple to fix and cheap. These cars are small, not that cheap and not that simple to fix. The japanese could sell small cars reasonably well because they were cheap, and very reliable, so in effect cheap to fix (since they didnt break much). But even they need to sell SUVs these days. So, yeah. Maybe in the future, they will make a, probably rebranded, comeback.

Since 2005-ish, french cars have no general weaknesses compared to other cars. Before that, it was a bit different, as you say.

@Jimarillion No, not all that much offence really. Sorry if I gave that impression. Its just that there often are lots of disparaging comments on how to pronounce car brands under many car videos, and often the arent even correct and/or made by people that cant pronounce even their own name correctly, as I said. Yours wasnt one of them, clearly. I just thought the guy should get some credit for at least trying. I apologize again. Cheers mate.

Its close enough compared to how english mangles even its own common words, I would say. Lots of people cant pronounce their own names correctly, after all.... So I think he should be applauded for a reasonable effort.

@Jimarillion Nope, I am not an Aussie. Almost literally from the other side of the world, Sweden. I watch content creators from all over the world, and its fun watching American guys look at rally. Was it the "Cheers mate" that made you think I am Australian? If it was, perhaps you will be pleased to know that its my preferred "greeting" in the english language, its got just the right amount of casualness and familiarity at once, I think. So I often use it. Anyways, yeah the Rooster burn story is a nice anecdote, no worries. I can understand most english text and words just fine... (dare I say sometimes better than some native speakers...? You will have to forgive me for my hubris..) My writing on the other hand often leaves something to be desired... ah well. It is what it is. Anyway, everything you have said is quite right. Cheers mate.

@ThatCarGuy1983 I am talking about when Japanese cars really got a foothold in the US market, the 1970s-1980s. French hatchbacks arent even sold in the US since then. In later years, neither franch nor Japanese small cars are cheap enough in the US, thats why the transition to larger cars are in full swing. A Honda civic is a much larger car than most hatchback Peugeots, and got a name for very good reliability.

@ThatCarGuy1983 8th is way larger than a 206, a 308 is the same size. But nevertheless, thats not what I meant. The japanese small cars cornered that market 40 years ago, and these days french cars dont offer any benefit that US customer like, that could enable a comeback. As I said: Too small, to expensive, and too hard to fix. If you want to sell a small car in US from an unknown brand, it better be dirt cheap and run with no servicing for 100k miles, more or less.

Not really true, certainly not when it comes to french cars. They just dont offer what most Americans are looking for.

Doubt it, but I guess nothing is impossible. Or wait a second, what is "Aspine"? Do you mean "Alpine"? Because if you do, thats more or less a Renault sub brand, certainly these days it is.
