Funnily enough they actually did get that exact car, though in the old E9x generation.

@AlanowyShow It wasnt a big seller. I dont have the exact numbers but 335i of the same generation probably outsold them 10 to 1, if not more.

People dont do "engine maintenance" that differs between petrol or diesel in europe, the system difference is too small to count, as is the cost for adblue compared to the fuel.

I have both a relatively high powered diesel car (BMW 335d) as well as petrol car (Porsche Cayenne turbo), but I think the differences are overblown on modern cars. Both do what you want them to do, its the regulations and laws that set the limit, not the engine design/fuel. They are functionally almost identical from the standpoint of what the engine can be used for. Very modern petrol engines are also effectively a petrol/diesel hybrid, in how they use the fuel and doing combustion. High pressure Direct injection, no throttle plate, semi-compression ignition, etc is stuff petrol engines have adapted that diesel got first.
