Not uncommon in northern countries.

And Audi q7... And these days (not the cars in the video) the Lamborghini Urus and Bentley bentayga as well.

Most of these vehicles are very old or in bad shape with regards to glow plugs etc. A resaonably modern diesel car thats fully functioning starts as easily at 0 degrees F as it does at 70 degrees F. But it does make for a good video seeing them having trouble starting. No more substantial issue starting a diesel than a petrol, really.

Southern and central euope, not much, no. Nothern europe, absolutely it is.

As the other guy said, that was the Q7. It did come with the petrol W12 though.

Quite common in scandinavia, which is mostly in the EU

Its the same with every modern car thats fully functioning. EV, petrol or diesel.

@Astravall Depends on how you define " a bit of starter action", really. 2-3 seconds is normal in low temperatures, which I would call pretty quick. So if your old cars took longer than that, it has indeed changed. Traction is only very faintly correlated to the quicker TCS reaction time possible with EVs. Its an advantage, but not all that big or even at all if you are proefficient at driving. In some circumstances the EV drivetrain characteristics actually conspires to make traction more of an issue than an ICE car.

Its the same with every modern car, block heater not needed for starting. Its for comfort.

US often has/had bad Diesel fuel, they are also uncommon so people dont know much about them.
1
Not for starting them you dont. UNless you are talking about glow plugs, but I have never heard anyone refer to a glow plug as an "engine heater".

@BoredSquirell Yes, exactly. Thats why I said the only thing you need to start a diesel at -10 or -15,-20 or -25 are glow plugs, not an "engine heater".

Meh, if the car is fully functioning and has a good battery its a non issue for anything made after 1990.

Reasonably common in nothern europe in private cars.
