Oh how naive..... getting to the summit of Everest has been a rich mans "pokemon trophy hunt" since literally forever for westerners, its just gotten more visible with social media and I guess have expanded to even more clueless fame seekers. Sherpas have been as good as carrying people on their back both up and down since the 1960s, more or less. Think of the 19th century western big game hunters in Africa, same exact deal. A nice lion head to hang over the fireplace to boast about to your guests.... Thus was it always with most "adventurers", driven by bragging rights or greed.
