@freepieanchipsgarage Either you read my comment a tad wrongly, or you like moving the goalposts a bit. As you can see, I only talk about factory stock and produced BMW e34, of which the M5 is included. One would assume thats what you talked about in the first post I replied to, no? Anyway, Alpinas are therefore not BMWs, nor M5s (Quite self evident, with their turbocharged engine etc), as I am sure you know. Also, serious speed records for production cars are set to FIA rules, which are quite stringent. Two way averages, no gradient to speak of, time limit between runs etc. Many "record runs", are in fact not really record runs after all. Only a few are. Seems unlikely your M5 runs fit the bill, unfortunately. Cheers mate.

@freepieanchipsgarage No stock BMW E34 is faster than a Lotus Omega, so that would be one strange record.

@freepieanchipsgarage I was around at that time. And yes, it indeed was electronically limited. Thats one of the reasons it could never be as fast as the Lotus Omega, so where did you get that "fact" from saying it was faster, I wonder?

Sure, but those driver aids can be shut off with a simple button, even quite a few years later. Also, many dont know you could get "M" variants even before this car landed in the US, case in point, the M535i of the same body style for example.

@mescko BMW is in the primary business of building road cars for the general public after all, and as such all those electronics are needed, both from customer demand and legislative such, as well as euro-ncap and the like. But fret not, they dont really add much weight in reality, just a few kg:s. As a percentage of total vehicle weight its miniscule. Even one of the best drivers in the world, doing max attack laps around a racetrack wouldnt feel the weight penalty. So in that regard there is no downside for you, really. Cheers.
