Indeed - memories can be tricky but on the other hand the British can not make War without Tea so even greasy powder flavoured Tea is still Tea. I'll buy one of these next pay day and see what we get!

Michael Emberley I'm not sure that is right - the water jacket is isolated from the firing mechanism etc so no powder residue lube etc should get into the water which as it heated up to steam would be under a positive pressure in any case; I'm sure I have read accounts that soldiers would fire a belt off to make water to brew up with - or would use the opportunity to fire off a belt to make hot water. If it's been attempted with a Vickers in modern times and the water was contaminated - I offer my apologies!

+Sam Doohan have I understood you right? The condenser can is fitted by a pipe to the jacket, so what are you suggesting? Or what do you think I have suggested? NB - I was interested enough to try a bit of myth busting on the Vickers tea kettle story, and it appears that from the easily available sources, it may have been used as such but overall it wasn't common practise as Robert Graves would have had us believe , as Michael Emberley quite rightly maintains, the water would have oil in it that would make it a kettle of desperation, not choice.
