  4.  @DiederikCA  Deficits are actually a good thing for most economies, this is why countries often fall into recessions/depressions when they try to "balance the budget". The ECB should create however much money is necesarry to support healthy deficits for all member nations

  5. The EU should let members run as much of a deficit as needed to support full employment. This is the only way you will compete with countries like the US and China, who have full control of their currencies and thus can run whatever deficits they want with no risk of default. The ECB should empower EU members in that same way

You can always overpower market forces, just take a look at japan's 0% interest rate policy despite running a debt to gdp ratio of 250%. It was a terrible budget, but the market cant overpower the bank of england

The bank of england could have easily undone that short term move in the pound, just like they undid the chaos in the pension funds, and just like Japan routinely swats away market movements in their interest rates with little damage to their currency

Europeans have universal healthcare because they care about their citizens more than big pharma, unlike US politicians. Secondly, your taxes don't fund anyhthing.   32.  @hevnervals  their abilit to print has more to do with the fact that they take up debt exclusively in their own currency. This is why Japan has continued to prove people wrong when they predict default due to japans crazy high debt to gdp ratio

  33.  @hevnervals  it's not really debt in the traditional sense when the debt is in your own currency. A debt is something you borrow, but the government doesn't need to borrow it's own currency. It just creates it, including the money that changes hands in the financial system

  34.  @hevnervals  Domestic debt isn't really even debt, treasuries and dollars come from the same printer and are only convertible for each other. When they "add to the debt" they just turn dollars into bonds, and when they pay it off, they simply turn those bonds back into dollars. It's just moving money between different accounts at the fed. And the fed is part of the government for all intents and purposes. It was created by the government, gets it's authority from the government, answers to the government, hands over all it's profits to the treasury, and has it's senior members appointed by the president and confirmed by congress. it's set up in a similar way to a private bank but it is very much a govenrmen entity. It's whole reason for existing is to fulfil it's dual mandate from congress, low inflation + full employment

They don't even need his approval for anything since they've had a veto proof majority since 2018. In most states dems have to win a trifecta to get any good policies passed because republicans stop everything
