@AlphaHorst the but could be used simply to add more information though, it doesn't need to contradict what came before it

@AlphaHorst it may be uncommon, but isn't that what the context of the sentense points to? A simple addition of information as apposed to a contrasting point? I don't agree that the sentence structure is contradictory. If i say "posh accents are usually seen as a sign of wealth, but they can also develope based on where you grew up", the second part does not contradict the first, it just gives more information

@AlphaHorst Do you think "we often take posh accents to be a symptom of high birth in this country, but posh accents can also be a sign of where you grew up" has a different sentence structure to "We often take high turnouts to be a sympton of good health in a democracy, but high turnout can also be a sign that people want change"?
