@comeontake capitalism and democracy come from liberalism

@Shady36 Not necessarily, at least not the type of austerity pursued by conservatives in government. Usually the military is never on the chopping block, just the programs people rely on. Trying to balance the budget is a fools errand in my opinion, you can't do it without massively hampering growth. This is why 96% of the jobs created since 1989 have come under democrats presidents

@doreenb.8928 despotic authoritarianism 😅 Nonsense

what is the case for conservatism on the economic front? It's never made much sense to me. Austerity is harmful on an individual level, and societally in terms of growth
1
@ajbunches825 i mean this obsession with a "balanced budget", tax cuts for the rich and austerity for the average person

@pa610 austerity takes places most of the time without inflation. Just look at the last rounds of austerity in the 2010's. It's usually done out of a misplaced fear about the national debt or attempts to "balance the budget". If you want to encourage business success, which is the purported aim of the center right, trying to balance the budget is a terrible approach. The private sector relies on government deficits to stay afloat, if the government cuts those deficits off, the economy will eventually fall into recession/depression. This is why every depression in US history has occurred after a period of deficit reduction. Republican instance on depriving the economy of government spending is why democrats presidents have created almost all the jobs since 1989

@ajbunches825 the jobs created are in the report

@ajbunches825 Conservatives spend just as much if not more than liberals, but that's beside the point. What conservatives don't get about the economy is that the 3 sectors of the economy (private sector, public sector and foreign sector) can't all be in surplus. The only way for the private sector to run a surplus (which it needs to do to stay out of recession) is to draw that surplus from one of the other sectors. And since it can't draw the surplus from the foreign sector because of our trade deficit, it must draw it from the government. So until we get rid of our trade deficit (which can't happen unless the US loses it's reserve currency status) the private sector will rely on government deficits to stay afloat and calling for a "balanced budget" is basically calling for a recession. Side note, what has the dem party passed that can be considered marxist?

the policy that dems pass implies they really are trying to do good. Universal school meals, universal childcare, caps on insulin prices, sick leave and much more. What do Republicans pass? tax cuts for rich corporations and nothing else
1
the only problem with that is the right sees "us" as the corporations

proof?

@DerekHG Average daily US oil production under Biden has been higher than under any previous president, and 2023 is on pace to be the highest output year in history. Oil being more expensive right now isn't on Biden
1
@richardw0929 That's nonsense, like i said, average domestic oil production under Biden has been higher than any other president, and we're on track to beat the all time record for a single year this year
