there should be a universal welfare program for all kids, elderly and disabled people. The government should step in and provide and income for those who can't work for themselves

@americanpleb7871 i really don't think people would maim themselves to get disability support, and if they do only an incredibly small number of people would do that. Certainly not enough to offset the millions of people who would get out of extreme poverty
4
@goozebump The Ukraine spending only accounts for 0.006% of our budget, blaming that for why we can't help our poor is lazy
4
you will still need welfare even with a fully employed economy because half the population can't work (kids, elderely, disabled). These people need an extra source of income if they are to avoid pulling themselves and their breadwinner into poverty.
2
@markbrown8097 I don't have to pay for it, we could just cut the military budget by 1%
2
@bromack3 Sure but there's the very common occurrence that you could afford them before someone got sick, or someone got laid off, someone got injured at work, or any number of life stuff happening. No point punishing the kid for being born into such a position
2
@LightYagami-rz6su It isn't, the government could reduce the military budget by 1%
2
the best way to get rid of the bureaucracy and just get the help to the families that need it is to make the welfare universal instead of the means tested monstrosities we currently have
2
welfare will always be necesary since you have to work to get money and half the population is either to young, too old or too disabled to work
1
@americanpleb7871 Sure but all foreign aid is a minuscule portion of our budget
1
@LightYagami-rz6su The government could step in without raising taxes
1
cuts are not needed
1
@Andrew-3445 that's way to low, government deficits are healthy for the economy. Government deficit = private sector suplus. Cutting the deficits means taking money out of the private sector, which leads to recession. Just ask Clinton, he was bragging about balancing the budget right up until the ecnomy tanked.
1
@Andrew-3445 they have no need to raise taxes to pay for the interest payments because the process of paying off the interest is just an asset swap. They simply mark down your bond account, and mark up you reserve account. All done through a keyboard at the fed, in 2021 alone they paid for 120 TRILLION dollars in maturing bonds, not a penny in taxes needed. And taxes don't actually fund anything the government does anyway. Federal taxes are deleted at the IRS, and if you choose to pay by cash, that money is thrown in a shredder. You can actually buy shredded tax money in DC. The government has no need for our money because they make the stuff. Even the money we use to pay taxes had to first be spent into the economy by the government. And if you're wondering why we need to pay taxes at all if they don't need our money, it's because they want the work you did to earn the money, not the moeny itself. That's how they get a police force, military etc

welfare doesn't mean you don't think for yourself, it just means you get support to stay out of poverty. It's the only way to avoid poverty in a capitalist system
1
there will always be high poverty in a capitalist system without welfare
1
welfare is good and smart, america just needs to improve the way it delivers it. Start by making it universal instead of means tested
1
exactly, welfare is cheaper than accepting poverty and better for society
1
how would a poor peson find this video useful?
1
you're not funding anyhting the federal government does
1
People shouldn't be forced to work as kids, that's a sign of a failed society. This is the richest country in the history of the world, we have the resources to keep everyone out of poverty, we just need to allocate them better.
1
people who can't work for themselves should get welfare
1
this is nonsense, welfare is the only way to avoid poverty in a capitalist system
1
welfare doesn't even go to the poorest people because of all the phase ins. We need to make welfare universal, not means tested
1
thats why we need a universal child benefit
1
ss is welfare
1
if done well it is temporary for the poor families that get out of poverty, but there will always be people in that situation, so the programs should be permanent
1
you need welfare in a capitalist sytem, only way to avoid high poverty rates
1
@Stitchyes567 sure, but you can never eradicate poverty under capitalism unless you adopt a strong welfare state
1
the government doesn't borrow money
1
learn what hyperinflation is
1
?
1
they never will
1
@jeff-hh9mc it's not debt, It's just a record of all the money ever spent by the government that hasn't been taxed back. It's currently circulating in the non-government economy as private sector assets
1
@jeff-hh9mc America has no need to "borrow" it's own currency. What they call borrowing simply describes the process of selling bonds, which is something they needed to do to control interest rates, not fund the government. And it's not difficult at all for the govenment to pay the interest on the bonds, it's just a matter of moving moeny around between fed accounts. When they pay interest, they simply mark down your bond account and mark up yout reserve account. All done with a keyboard. They paid for 120 TRILLION dolalrs in maturing bonds this way in 2021 alone
