Because they know he didn't have a choice, you have to be bipartisan when you only barely control one chamber
3
what job will he get done? He'll have to work with dems just like the last guy, and he's not even being asked for the same concessions that mccarthy was
3
@gregsteele806 Introducing single item bills is a pipe dream, which is why Gaetz isn't putting any such ridiculous condition on Jordan. What was the point of firing the last guy for not living up to standards you're not placing on the next guy? All pointless theater
2
He certainly could, all it would take is for mccarthy to make concessions to dems
2
how so? Still no speaker, and gaetz isn't giving jordan the same conditions he gave mccarthy?
2
@windingroad9196 The gov doesn't need your money, if you're working, your contributing to what they really care about, productivity
2
his job was to prevent a shutdown, which he needed dem votes for
2
what bill did dems pass last year that destroys america?
1
nah, they woulda saved him if that were true
1
@SockieTheSockPuppet It clearly didn't backfire on them since the Republicans are currently embarrassing themselves. And every hour this goes on, we get closer to a coalition government with the dems
1
you pretty much proved it would be a token hire in your second sentence
1
@maddhatter3564 when was this?
1
@Skullpimp Jordan will do things the same way mccarthy did, he wont have emuch choice
1
@chadreeves403 bipartisanship is code for governing with split contorl
1
@ratillecebrasquedubitantiu4451 that childish analysis makes you the naive one
1
@maddhatter3564 what has that got to do with making all bill ssingle issue?
1
@TrevorLahey-d5g That's not how govenment works. Grow up
1
@TrevorLahey-d5g My only problem is why the next speaker isn't being held to the same standards? Not shutting down the government was supposedly a betrayal worth ousting mccarthy, yet jordan isn't having any of the same conditions put on him. Makes the whole thing pointless
1
@maddhatter3564 in other words you've got none
1
@maddhatter3564 The obamacare vote was passed through reconsiliatoin so idk what you're tlaking about
1
@TrevorLahey-d5g So am i to believe Jordan is a rino who deserves to be thrown out if he fails to put forward single ticket bills or green lights more forign aide? Because im pretty sure he will do both of those things. And if that happens then this clown show was pointless. He didn't activeley agree to a budget tho, the budget hasn't been decided yet. He simply postponed the government shutdown so they have more time to hash it out. Shutting down the govenrment has never worked out well for Republicans, made no sense not to delay. And im assumuing the full tape did not reflect well on Republicans, no other reason he'd hold onto them
1
@TrevorLahey-d5g that makes no sense, represenative government can only work that way if you have enough representatives willing to play ball. Don't know if you've noticed but Republicans control one chamber by the skin of their teeth. They don't have the votes. It's about math not manliness
1
need ranked choice voting for that
1
and jordan isn't being made to make any promises
1
@SockieTheSockPuppet It doesn't matter how trustworthy he is, republican barely control one chamber. They're going to need to work with dems to get anything passed. And being trustworthy doesn't mean Jordan will go along with single item bills or ending all this foreign aid. Gaetz is basically giving Jordan permission to ignore all of the concessions he placed on maccarthy, making all this a waste of time
1
@cjgamer2140 if not passing single item voting bills or stopping forign aid makes a swamp mosnter, then Jordan will most likely be a swamp monster too
1
@loriprochaska2211 ?
1
getting rid of mccarthy made no sense either
1
taxes dont fund the federal gov
1
how did he side with dems? By pushing the government shutdown back a few weeks so they can hash out a budget?
1
what are they debating? this whole thing was so dumb
1
and there's nothing wrong with that rationale
1
there are always going to be rino's, the country isn't a monolith. There are plenty of people in Biden districts
1
@DragunBreath There are plenty, mainly the ones who represent wealthy districts. People like Gotheimer in nj. Cuellar and manchin also fit into that catogory. They're super consrervative, but that's to be expected considering their states/districts
1
@TheTubejunky Not true. The dems believe in more than just tax cuts for rich people
1
one side is playing stupid games and it aint the dems
1
how come jordan isn't being made to make any promises
1
they dont have to deal with gaetz
1
what was the point of ousting mccarthy for breaking promises if you're not going to ask Jordan to make those same promises?
1
@dublinoseven3279 No it isn't. Mccarthy wasn;t ousted for not voting conservatively enough. He was ousted for failing to produce single item bill, and being ok with forighn aid. If Jordan can get away with both of those things, then this circus was pointless
1
not mccarthy's fault people were putting things in the budget that was never going to pass the senate
1
@cindythorman5214 no amount of debate is gonna make ranfom culture war stiff viable in the budget
1
the government isn't in financial disaster
1
@Leoluvesadmira A debt is something that i borrow from someone, the government doesn't need to borrow it's own money from anyone. the "national debt" is just a record of all the money ever spent that's hasn't been taxed away. It's just the money circulating in the non-government economy in the form of US treasuries. US treasuries are just a different kind of dollar, they're both government instruments and they are directly convertible to one another. So when the government adds to the "debt", they just turn dollars into bonds. And when they pay off the "debt" they just turn those bonds back into dollars
1
@TheIrishSpitfire Like i said, it's not debt the way you might experience it. It's simply the total amount of untaxed money circulating in the non-govt economy. That money currently exists in te form of US treausries. These treasuries are just a differnt kind of dollar, they come from the same printer and sollars and are perfectively convertible to dollars.
1
@lithuaniaball They do have the money. If they have the votes, they have the money. As evidenced by the fact money for wars are never debated, they just appear. It's important to remeber that the government has an infinite money printer, the price tag is never an issue. The only issue is whether or not we have the recources and productive capacity to introduce that money into the economy without spakring inflation
1
@MGrant-bj1dc I'm blown away that you think the united states government answers to a private bank. That's proposterous. The fed was created by the government, get's it's authority from the government and answers to the govenrment. It exists for one reason, and that is to fulfil it's dual mandate from congress. This dual mandate is low inflation and full employment. Sure the individual fed banks are set up similar to a private bank, but it is the furthest thing from private. It must legally hand over all it's profits to the US treasury, and the entity that controls our monetary policy is a government orgonization called the FOMC. The FOMC is headed by the board of governmprs, and every one of them is appointed by the president and confirmed by congress. The fed is out central bank, every decision it makes is rooted in trying to achieve low inflatoin and full employment. Hence why our interest rates didn't go through the roof during world war 2 or the great recession. Hell they were at 0% for most of the 2010's, no private bank would do that
1
Not letting the government shut down is something only dems do?
1
because he understands this whole mess is a self inflicted disaster
1
@Xbalanque84 The government doesn't actually need tax money. They make all the money, including the money we use to pay taxes. In fact, they throw federal taxes in the shredder after you pay them. You can actually buy shredded tax money in DC
1
@tyrannusspissamentum4423 Because your taxes create demand for an otherwise worthless currency. The government doesn't want your money (they have an infinite supply of dollars) They want the time and labor you put into earning that money in order to pay the tax. That's how they get a police force, army, judiciary etc
1
@HonorOurHeritage yes it was, he wasn;t elected to go on vacation with a closed government
1
how so?
