The democrats wanted to give more money, its Mitch McConnell and his cronies that wouldn’t budge on 600

If the fact Perdue and leofler profited from the corona virus while calling covid relief “counter productive” didn’t stop people voting for them nothing will.
8
Trump potentially stripping away McConnell power in the senate with this is probably the best thing he’s done

@truthviolatescommunityguid3019 They certainly care more than republicans. It was hard enough to get them to give direct payments, and they came up with 600? That’s laughable. They were very ready to put in large tax cuts for corporations though
7
The democrats have been in favor of more direct payments for a long time now. It was hard enough getting republicans to agree to the “direct payment” part. The republicans have been the ones limiting their relief and trying to sneak in tax cuts for corporations.

Wouldn’t be surprised if trump was secretly hoping leofler and Perdue lose. He doesn’t want to be the only loser republican 😂
4
He definitely would’ve signed if he’d won, thank god he didn’t
3
@searay7277 that’s not true lol, which democrats votes against relief and when?
3
Only because he lost. If he’d won, he’d have signed immediately
2
@vampir753 I strongly believe he only refused to sign As a backlash to Mitch for accepting Biden’s win. He only cares about the admiration of his base as it relates to reelection. Had he won, that would no longer be necessary.

@rain73ful TWICE

@PermanentHigh that’s not part of the relief bill, that part of an omnibus bill. It’s well documented that Mitch McConnell has held up relief bill progress for months seeking to get as much for corporations as possible. Ron Jonson apposed a 1,200 check twice. Every barrier to relief so far has been republicans

@gregorymartin9432 First of all the omnibus bill was passed in a bipartisan manner by both chambers of Congress. They passed a 2.3 Trillion spending package which included a 1.4 Trillion omnibus bill that consisted of 12 different bills and it as supposed to fund the government for the years 2021 as well as a separate 900 billion dollar relief package specifically for covid, plus a few smaller bills. It’s the 1.4 trillion part that has the funding for domestic and foreign policies and interests. Appropriation bills usually include foreign aid, commonly for military and humanitarian aid. Foreign aid accounts for about 1% of federal spending and much of it has conditions. The sum of the domestic/foreign spending is not larger than the covid relief spending. As for the 900 Billion relief bill, remember back in May the democratic house passed a 3 trillion dollar bill that the republicans laughed out of existence. And in these talks they wanted to pay 2.2 trillion in relief but Mitch McConnell’s starting offer was only 500 billion in non direct payments. A lot of the lengthy negotiations involved trying to get Mitch’s offer higher but he would not budge passed 900 billion. Not to mention he only agreed to direct payments in the first place as a political ploy to help the Republican senators in Georgia win re-election so he can hold on to his majority leader status. He was more interested in corporate tax cuts and liability reform that would help corporations avoid law suits

@EdgeO419 love this. I hope he destroys the Republican Party.
1
@EdgeO419 Officially she can say she did that only to get the bill signed faster as it still goes to a vote on Monday. And all the headlines right now read “House GOP vote against $2,000 relief bill” so I can’t imagine that will be good for them in the run off.
1
@EdgeO419 yeah, but to be fair the dems have at least offered decent relief. Republicans voted against it many times citing things like “concerns about the deficit” and they only recently agreed to direct payments
1
It was hard enough getting the republicans to give direct payments, and you think they’d give monthly payment? That’s laughable
1
What bill was that?
