The same Colby that got stopped on the feet by Usman, who hardly ever fight pure stand up battles? I don’t think so man. Colby has always depended on his wrestling to beat guys, his tendency to get hit coming in and lack of power cost him in pure stand up battles. And I don’t think he’ll be able to take woodley down considering woodleys wrestling accolades and td defense. And the longer it stays standing the worse it is for Colby

Can’t help but imagine what woodley could do to him if he manages to take away Colby’s wrestling, it could end really badly for Colby.   16. 190 190 He’s never been that successful on the feet at distance; most of his pressure comes from takedowns or clinch game against the fense. Don’t think he’s taking woodley down and don’t think he’s strong enough to smother him in the clinch. Colby’s volume is manageable when he doesn’t mix in his wrestling, and I think woodley will be able to handle it. After all Colby has never beaten a high level wrestler

  17. 190 190 He usually makes low level wrestlers look like amateurs, a high level wrestler will be good enough to keep things on the feet where he is significantly weaker. Usman is a less credentialed wrestler than woodley and was still able to keep Colby from even attempting to change levels, despite the fact he’s been doing that his entire career. Not even a broken jaw could incentivize him to go for a take down, that tells me high level wrestlers might be worse for him than people think Especially a high level wrestler that happens to be a competent striker, that also has power and a bjj black belt

Don’t see Colby taking him down or keeping him there If he does. Don’t see him beating woodley in the clinch either since he lost their against rda. Plus he can’t get too reckless in the clinch or have what happened to him vs Alves repeat itself.

  19. Mark Rodriguez that Silva fight was a decade ago, surviving that fight is not exactly the most relevant indicator of Maia’s striking. Colby looked good on the feet against a mediocre striker in Usman, that’s why you hardly ever see him striking at distance. The fact he was more confident in his striking against full camp Colby than 2 week notice masvidal says a lot. It wasn’t bad luck that cost him in the striking battle with Usman, it was his lack of power. And I feel that will continue to cost him in exchanges on the feet at the highest level. I wouldn’t say Colby was better offensively judging by the stats. Usman outstruck him in significant strikes and total strikers, pretty much everywhere on the body and in ever position. They were still pretty evenly matched tho. Usman was simply able to absorb a lot more than Colby due to the power advantage, and woodley has more power that usman. Colby doesn’t have the freak strength to smother woodley in the grappling department that Usman has, and he doesn’t have the power to make woodley hesitate on the feet the way burns did: Plus burns is a physical powerhouse in his own right. If you take away Colby’s wrestling and clinch work, his pressure becomes manageable, and I think woodley has the tools to do that.

It doesn’t matter that he didn’t stop woodley or knock him down, he still finished the two guys that did. He definitely took damage in that fight. Woodley was never the same afterwards.
