  1. It's called Prescriptive Easement. I commented to Lehto to address it. It exists, I got "free property" that way twice. Easements that fell into disuse, I started clearing and using conspicuously, daily, for 10 years. On day 3661 I applied to the county recorder that I was claiming the property. Got my deeds. And a good chunk of useful land. *Be aware, suddenly you can be on the hook for a lot of tax debt. Research first.

  2. @stevelehto please look into the ramifications of Prescriptive Easements. And also how curtilage affects non-farm trespass, for large (over 10ac) lots. Also in my state we have a law that seems in conflict with yours. If I shoot a deer, and it doesn't fall, and I have to track it, I am allowed to 'trespass' non-curtilage property to retrieve my kill. Gun and all. Considering the mass of forests in your area, I am surprised there is not similar law.
