I think the saying goes "it's a large, modern army, but the large part isn't modern and the modern part isn't large".

Grody chan meme avatars continue to be a reliable red flag.

Great idea, I agree. Russia can end it in a day by withdrawing its troops to its own territory and then declaring a ceasefire.

Yeah, no.

But Russia was in no way "lured" into this war. Like, European governments in the decades leading up to it were bending over backwards to maintain friendly (=profitable) relations with Russia, even in the face of repeated Russian aggression against Ukraine and Georgia. And it was repeatedly made clear to Ukraine that they would not be admitted to NATO precisely because it wasn't worth a confrontation with Russia. That's also why Western leaders were surprised by the Russian invasion: they figured Putin understood that he had a good thing going, economically, and that he wouldn't want to jeopardize it.

@guidobolke5618 What Germany had back then, and Russia today doesn't, is manpower. Germany in 1939 had a young and growing population. They were gaining 500,000 people per year. Russia is shrinking and aging. They can't afford to throw millions of their young men into the meat grinder, because there wouldn't be any young men left.

"Supporting Ukraine isn't that urgent because the Russian military turned out to be pathetic and the Ukrainians can probably handle them" is a narrative that's been around ever since the failure of the original invasion. You must not read very widely if you've never come across it.

"Meat wave" describes a specific sort of attrition tactic, where you basically make the enemy exhaust themselves (physically, psychologically and in terms of materiel) killing wave after wave of your troops. Your attempt at sounding wise and jaded with a generic "war is hell" take just shows that you don't understand the specifics.
