@Princip666 Only Ukraine used to have to do this. Now the Russians have to do it too. Russia used to have an advantage in this regard, being able to concentrate their forces wherever they wanted. Now it's even. That's the point.

Of course being there sucked for the troops, especially on the retreat. Being on a battlefield sucks. That doesn't mean it wasn't strategically useful.
