They did this because of the boost abstinence provides in energy, strength and cognition. Any man out there knows deep in their hearts that they get tired after releasing. The most simple thing a man can do to confirm my words is to abstain from releasing for 7 days and see what happens internally. The medieval anecdote about men becoming feminine after having too much sex has some validity. There are studies out there supporting that abstaining increases testosterone. But not only that, you have reports from hundreds of thousands of men reporting the exact same benefits word to word when abstaining. Also if you constantly release your brain will in the mode of prolactin which is similar to the refraction period. If you release daily or weekly, your brain is basically overflooded with prolactin 24/7 impeding the processes responsible for androgen receptor density and sensitivity making your own free testosterone not being optimized optimally. People laugh at some phrases from medieval times or pagan times but some of them hold some truth. People were just as observant in those times as they are now. Perhaps even more observant given that they are not constantly stimulated all the time.
