That is nothing compared to ukraine as a whole. And to achieve this they used massive resources, personal and ammo. If this is all we can expect from russia the counteroffensive has good chance to drive them back. Russia reached its peak and it isnt enough. By the way the claim of ukraine running out of manpower is based on what excactly? Roughly the equivalent of 6 devisions are coming back from training in europe right now.

But why is that. It was clear from beginning that the russians would come back. They think russia has some historic right to possess them. So in the end it payed off.

And it surly didnt started in 2014. You seem to know nothing about it. The syrian civil war started in 2011 when multiple groups Rebellen against the syrian dictator. A dictator which is aupported by russia which is Terror bombing dozens of syrian cities btw. And the west indeed supported syria. Multiple rebel groups and especialy the kurds and fought along side them against ISIS
