  4. The point the scientists are trying to make is that the realized climate changes at the “self-regulation” point will be beyond what our world population can endure. What they don’t wish to discuss, because of political considerations, is that the negative effects of climate change are exacerbated by the dense human population. In times of sparse human populations, rising sea levels and undesirable temperatures would have spurred migrations, but in a crowded world, migration isn’t so easy — or welcome.

  5. I think an EV would be a great grocery-getter, but the fire danger is enough to keep me away for now. I park my car in an attached garage, and an intense fire in the garage could burn down my house along with my family. I’ll wait …

  6. Toyota has historically used NiMH (nickel–metal hydride) batteries in their hybrids. They have just recently started using lithium-ion batteries in select models, so time will tell if they start having problems.

  7. The concern with CO2 has nothing to do with toxicity to humans, it concerns the effects of CO2-induced climate change on the world population. Scientists are crying about our current 420 ppm CO2 concentrations. By contrast, a closed bedroom will routinely exceed 2500 ppm CO2 just because of the respiration of a sleeping human. Sitting in a midsized car with the windows up and no ventilation will see concentrations from 7500-10000 ppm within an hour with two occupants. Unless there is physical impairment involved, these values are not harmful to humans.
