@quicktastic Naïveté had nothing to do with it . Russia got the land in conquered as a result of war . Russia agreed to stay out of Greece, Turkey and withdrawal troops from Iran. The conflict between Churchill and Roosevelt stemmed from the fact that Churchill did not want to extend independence to their colonies and Roosevelt was pressuring him to do so . Communism is just a trigger word Nixon uses to pull the wool over your eyes.

What a ridiculous take . The Soviets got the countries they occupied as spoils of war.The Russians agreed to not interfere in Greece or Turkey . The Russians also left Iran . The dispute between Roosevelt and Churchill was because the US waned the British to give up their colonies and Winston refused . Nixon has always been prejudiced against people of color and this interview proves it

FDR is referring to Stalins promises of democratic elections in the eastern bloc countries. I am discussing realpolitik. The US was in no position to demand anything from the Soviets in countries their armies occupied and they just fought a war in which they lost 30 million people . Did the Soviets leave Iran? Yes Did the Soviets go all out to make Greece communist? No Did the Soviets go all out to foment communism in Turkey ? No Jonny your “Feelings” are not facts . Nixon could tell you pigs could fly and you’d believe him .

The realpolitik of the post war hegemony was the that the Russians had control over the lands they occupied after a brutal war . The FDR quote you refer to FDR said the Russians couldn’t be trusted to fulfill the promises Stalin made at Yalta in regard to elections in the eastern bloc countries . Stalin did stay out of Greece , Iran and Turkey . The bond Nixon had with Churchill is because they were both unrepentant racists and neither wanted any of the former colonies to be free while FDR wanted to give them freedom

@ whether it be corralling hundreds of thousands into camps in Kenya in the 1950’s or supporting apartheid in SA or bloody coups in Iran and Asia the British were clinging to colonialism long after 45 .

The fact is the Russians were openly hostile to democracy the US was just more covert in its hostility to democracy.

Roosevelt’s problem with Churchill was that the British were refusing to give up their colonies . Nixon being very prejudiced against people of color of course would side with Churchill

@ damn skippy FDR should have lectured Churchill . The British were holding on to their colonies breaking the deal offered to their subjects which was fight the Germans and we will give you your freedom after the war . The same deal they broke in WW1 . No I am not communist quite the opposite. Are you a racist ? FDR knew that pursuing continued colonialism was a recipe for communist revolution in those countries. As a matter of fact the US passed civil rights laws in this country as a response to communism. Were the territories swallowed up by the Soviet Union or territory their armies occupied? Did the Soviets swallow up Greece , Iran or Turkey ? No , which was a concession Stalin have to FDR . Do you actually have your own thoughts or just fascist talking points?
