These tariffs are a 6 trillion dollar tax hike you do not have to be a rocket scientist to understand tariffs lead to lower consumption which leads to lower productivity and employment. All the while this will raise prices destroying innovation at the same time

@joshcal7370 trumps tariffs upend 250 years of economic orthodoxy going back to the writings of Adam Smith. Understanding that loss of market share lowers productivity and that a tax increase of 6 trillion dollars will lower consumption is just a bridge too far for some people .

@joshcal7370 these are the largest tariffs in history dwarfing the Smoot Hawley tariffs of 1930 . We also were not as dependent on imports in 1913 . We also had massive economic panics that created huge lay offs , bankruptcies and massive poverty in the years before 1913 .
