@oddstap6976 With Gentoo everything on your hard drive will be compiled from sources, using the latest GCC and the best optimization for your hardware. Also all packages are compiled with as little dependencies as needed or configured.
The feeling you get from this is amazing if you are the type of person who appreciate this. And of course it saves HDD space, memory, CPU and leaves less attack surface.
If you don't have any problems, then getting Gentoo to work isn't that hard. And your level should be fine, as I have about the same level of experience, based on your comment. Though I appreciate the problems also because I learned so much when I tried to find the fix to my problems. And the confidence after fixing all the problems grew more than can be said.
If you don't have space computer/laptop where you are planning on installing Gentoo, I strongly suggest that you do it in virtual machine first. As the ability to stop and continue the process, ability to do other stuff while Gentoo compiles, ability to read the Gentoo manual (and possibly forums) at the same time with the same computer, is really going to make it more pleasant experience.
Once you have installed it once, doing it the second time will be really easy.
