It's hard to imagine worse things than Chromium browser and Javascript based desktop software. Especially on software and components that are used by millions of people. The total amount of wasted resources is kind of insane.

Linux and tons of development tools for Linux have been free forever. Here in University we are given Linux laptops (that are actually more expensive than Windows laptops) and everything in computer science is done with Linux. But MS bribing money seems to be everywhere, such a horrible decisions are done all over the world.

@domninin Linux profited from becoming the standard OS for web servers in the 90s. Since then desktop Linux was slowly on the rise. Win7 kind of stagnated the rise of desktop Linux, but late 2010s again changed that because of Win10 being what it is and because hardware support became so much better. I don't know people who use Electron apps, normies usually don't want to learn new OS so I don't know how much this really helps. The most important factors for Linux usage are that it's free (as in freedom) software, it allows total control for the user, and of course security and because of it's smaller use of resources.

@danielegvi Your typical end user would benefit from better security, stability and less resource usage. Free (as in freedom) software paradigm benefits everybody, proprietary software can do whatever on your machine and you don't know it. Free(dom) software/open source paradigm is much more beneficial than proprietary model. For the majority Windows really doesn't give more than Linux, those that need specific software are the obvious exclusion to this. So I would hope a ton of people would take the plunge and migrate to Linux. Outcry is Microsoft's shady/criminal tactics against Linux, and well against all of their competitors. And their shady businesses in Linux foundation.

Exactly, saving the cost of development is making the end users paying the price. If the software is being used by millions, then the total waste is pretty enormous.

@GrimmerPl Flatpak has it's benefits, but solving dependency issues creates security issues. Can't say what's the best way forward, but I'm happy about everything that helps people migrate to Linux. Hopefully it doesn't take forever to get enough users so that there would be native Linux versions on all of the important software. As of now I use virtualization if I really need to use something on windows. Though I pretty much have migrated to use open source alternatives on Linux in almost everything.
