@charlessmith5465 Gentoo is like Linux From Scratch with almost the easiness of a common distro. I just can't recommend it enough. But the initial learning curve is steep, though it stops almost suddenly and you realize that you know enough. Then only short while goes and you feel like you master the system. But it can feel hopeless at some point. That really will pass soon, and it really is worth it. Though it needs modernish quad core or better, and at least 8GB of RAM so you can have enough threads for compiling. But the best way to utilize Gentoo is to have distcc compiling service running somewhere and then installing it to some potato machine. Now you get to optimize lightweight Linux directly to your potato machine and get it running faster. I have the testing branch, thus zero day sources. Within my laptop, all drivers loaded (wifi+bluetooth+power management+virtualization etc) it takes 44MB of RAM when booted. When I go to my Mate Desktop, it's 239MB. And much faster than Ubuntu Mate that I dual boot on the same laptop for work related reasons. Gentoo on old Celeron CPU (that has small caches) could be much faster because of the compiling directly to that CPU. But compiling on that CPU is way too slow, thus distcc service is needed.
