@marioschroers7318 That's the beauty of having name like I have, it's easy to remember =) Gentoo installation and setup is overwhelming, and there will be overwhelming feelings in the beginning after the installation. But that stops suddenly, and you feel you master the basics. From that point on it's getting better and better. And that feeling of "I master this" changes to "no matter what happens, I can fix it" and thus Gentoo changes your whole computing life. And to me personally knowing that everything is compiled by myself from sources is a great feeling. I don't mean achievement, I mean it just feels great, and that was the most surprising thing which I didn't know would happen.

Gentoo testing branch on my laptop with wifi+virtualization etc. takes 45MB, Mate desktop environment fully booted with network manager takes 199MB. I have fully Ofast optimized (except GentooLTO provides exceptions on packages that require less aggressive optimization) system which makes binaries larger and takes more RAM. So fully tuned Gentoo with DWM might take as little as 50MB in total. I have 32bit Gentoo with DWM on VM and it takes 57MB, but I have not optimized kernel. Though 64bit version takes slightly more and wifi drivers etc. take somewhat. Still under 100MB for certain.

To be fair, you only see the installation process. After installation it's as easy to maintain as Arch, but instead of Arch you have perfect system for your own hardware, with only the dependencies you want etc. Installing desktop meta packages is also much much easier, pretty much installing one meta package gets you fully working desktop environment. Gentoo is the best in so many ways, and worst in installation time, and updating time (which you get used to quite fast, as you can just update on the background while doing something else, or update with shutdown after doing your work). Gentoo community is the most welcoming and helpful community I have ever seen. IRC channel has lots of Gentoo devs etc. experts who will help you no matter how silly or how complex the question/problem. Emerge Wgetpaste and after that you can use that in front of anything to paste the output to pastebin and copy the link to IRC chat to get help. Obviously try to fix the problem yourself as that's how you learn, but there's still no RTFM comments in Gentoo IRC.

@sigmundfreud4472 My DWM process uses only 5.8MB, though I have the absolute base DWM but still. Perhaps you checked the used virtual memory? Or perhaps that base DWM just is much lighter in RAM usage.
