  1. We should all just use C++20 and be happy =) And for the most part this isn't a joke. If someone can show that Rust code can be optimized better, and that it actually happens, then I'll promise to learn Rust and start to evangelize it. In most projects performance should be the goal, assuming there's enough users and hours used of that software. Otherwise we are paying the saved developer time multiple times through used energy, time, and hardware.

  2.  @climatechangedoesntbargain9140  I'm certainly not against Rust, and in many case saving developer hours is the most important thing. Though if we would calculate the total cost of the software, thus time spent using it, energy spent using it, probability cost of bugs, time of developers, etc. every single possible cost, and try to make that cost as small as possible, then C++20 would win in large amount of cases. Companies love to develop fast and easily and transfer the cost to customers that have to use slower software that uses more energy. This total optimization thing is ofcourse impossible idealized model, though in FOSS software it could become the reality or at least we should try to get as close to that as possible. Hopefully Rust becomes something that can be optimized even better than C++. Based on the limited knowledge I have on the language, that's not impossible in the long run.

  3.  @climatechangedoesntbargain9140  I would like some math to show it's the case. By time spending using the software I meant that fast software saves time. Even if it's tiny amount of time per user, it adds up quickly with millions of users. Microsoft cares only about making money, so they are the prime example of corporation who willingly would transfer cost to customers. I seriously hope FOSS would follow the total optimization route, as it has the ability to do so.

  4.  @climatechangedoesntbargain9140  Point was that Microsoft don't care about anything but their own profits. They are happy to transfer cost to customers by providing inferior product, in general I mean. Rust code isn't as optimized as C++ as of now, and while I agree there might be better optimization possibilities in the long run, I would want to see some proof. How well C++20 can be optimized is something I know, and it's pretty incredible.
