Rights respecting software. That's my first idea of rebranding free software. It's hard to argue against that, and it also is "corporate friendly" name vs. free software. And most importantly it forces people to look into what Rights Respecting Software actually means. It's kind of incredible how long it took for me to know anything about Stallman. I mean I knew the guy and lots of facts about him, but I didn't know anything about free software and why it's so important. And Rights Respecting Software is becoming ever more important thing as we are closing into technocracy. If anyone knows better name than Rights Respecting Software, please share it and spread it.

5:48 That's absolute BS from the author, as governments are among the most corrupt entities in the world. How the hell can anyone take seriously "cybercrime division" when NSA and CIA are just that, not in the good way though. Free(dom) software is so important because of corrupt governments.

@uni6503 I get what you mean, and I get that the word rights have exactly those problems. But I don't think it matters in this context. I think these "ethical software" and other people using the word rights are so easily shown to be wrong, that I don't think they can get any traction. Though I certainly don't think that Rights Respecting Software is perfect term, though I haven't heard any better term either. At least that term would make large percentage of people to look up what the hell it means, or they would ask from their friends, co-workers etc. and I think there's just so much obvious logic behind free software, that anyone who looks into that should figure that out. The main thing is that the term must be media/corporate friendly so that it could spread in the first place, and then it should get as many people as possible to look into the ideology behind it.

@Speykious Libre is good. Though it's not something that would make people look up what it really means etc. Freedom software has it's problems too, as that can be associated with freedom fighters etc. and it's not corporate friendly term. And at least some corporate friendliness must be retained or open source continues to erase everything else. Rights Respecting Software certainly isn't amazing name, but at least it forces almost instantly to think about the rights and that's the key thing.

@uni6503 Rights respecting, not rights supporting... It's not perfect name by any means, but to me it doesn't sound at all like ethical software. Ethical software is logically flawed from the start. Rights respecting essentially is free software, as free software is determined by having it respect certain rights/freedoms. I think Rights Respecting Software is better than free software of freedom software, because those either are misunderstood or have bad associations even among the common people, let alone the corporate world. Though it might be that Rights Respecting Software might also be interpreted badly by companies, though I feel nowadays that sounds almost like SJW woke ideology, so it might work well. Not that I support SJW wokeness, and I think a large section of people would check out what Rights Respecting Software actually means when they would encounter it. And we have pretty much won when a person looks up what it means and why those rights/freedoms are so important.
